Q: How do I upload my site via FrontPage?
A: PLEASE NOTE: We've stopped supporting FrontPage due to the fact that Microsoft no longer supports it (officially as of 2006). Additionally, it has been since 2003 since any sort of update to FrontPage and FrontPage extensions, which means they are not up to date with the latest security mandates. That in turn means you could be opening up a security hole with your website by even USING FrontPage Extensions! This is why we highly recommend that you move to different software, or alternatively use FrontPage WITHOUT FrontPage extensions and instead use FrontPage's FTP settings to publish your sites.

If you have FrontPage extensions installed on your site, they SHOULD still operate, but we simply cannot guarantee that it will continue to do so as there are no further updates from Microsoft, and eventually the extensions will not run on modern hardware.

You can publish your web site from a copy on your own computer to your hosting account , or you can edit your web page directly on our server making the changes instantly available without having to publish.

To publish from your computer to our server:

  1. Open the copy of the web site you have on your computer
  2. Go to "File" then "Publish Web" on the FrontPage menu
  3. Type in the web address of your server based site e.g. http://www.yoursite.com
  4. Click "Publish"

You will be then prompted for your hosting username and the password you assigned when installing Frontpage extensions.

To work on the live version of your site, open the web by going to File --> Open Web menu, and then typing in the web address for your site.

In this scenario, when you create or edit a file, you're editing it directly on the server, and therefore do not need to upload it, as it will already be there. Exercise caution, because if you make a mistake there really is no way to fix it, as the changes are instantly made on the server.

When using this method, we suggest you make a backup copy of your files in case a problem develops. Clients are responsible for maintaining their own backups.

Special note:
We strongly recommend not using FrontPage's FTP feature for uploading - all publishing should be via the http:// publishing option. The reason for this is that we've noticed many clients who are not familiar with the FrontPage FTP feature tend to accidentally delete critical folders or upload to the wrong folders. Using the http:// publishing option ensures that your site will be uploaded to the right folder in your account.

If you need to use FTP, we recommend using a dedicated FTP program
